Life's Purpose: what is the point of life?

In short

Claire believes life's purpose is to learn the lessons our souls choose before birth, evolving over many lifetimes back towards the source. Inspired by Michael Newton's Journey of Souls, she sees death as 'au revoir' rather than goodbye.

Many of us ask what the point of life is at some stage, especially when our own life is threatened or a loved one dies. Left unanswered, this question can unseat our mental wellbeing. In this blog I'll share the answer I believe to be true, to ground your mental and spiritual wellbeing.

Death is au revoir

I've always believed in reincarnation, finding it fascinating and plausible. But it wasn't until my own grief journey, after my father died, that a friend lent me Journey of Souls by Michael Newton and I found an explanation I could go with.

His book is a collection of case studies from past-life regressions, so anecdotal evidence of reincarnation in practice. It comforted me by reminding me that we're all on our own paths and will be reunited with loved ones once we're finished. An earthly goodbye is an afterlife welcome back. Death is really "au revoir" and not goodbye: we only lose each other for a bit, and certainly not forever!

Past life connection

As is so often the case, the author found this by happy accident. He stumbled on his clients' past lives while using hypnotherapy to help them with trauma in this life, and became fascinated by the connection between the two.

Our life's purpose

In a nutshell, we all come from the "source", which is conscious energy. We're at varying levels of awareness of this, and basic awareness only kicks in after five lives. Our earthly purpose is to learn the lessons we agreed to before birth, to grow our knowledge and understanding so we can evolve into ultimately becoming the source. This takes many, many lifetimes, but you can tell who's more evolved by the vibes they give off: compassionate, peaceful, powerful, loving. It's their aura. Does this resonate with you? Is this your truth?

Aura colours

Auras come in only a few colours, from new-soul white or grey, to white mixed with a little of any primary colour, to intermediate yellow, which darkens to light blue, then darkens again to purple.

By the time we've reached blue, which can take thousands of lifetimes, we stop reincarnating. We become metaphysical creators of the natural world and form the higher consciousness, also called the source or the divine.

New species

Ever wondered why we keep discovering new species of life? Well, now you know why...

What is an aura?

Auras are the force fields of energy some beings can see around us: the frequency we vibrate at. The light we radiate is in proportion to the power of our knowledge and perception. We're just like stars!

The rich are young souls

Interestingly, the youngest souls are the ones who have gathered the most material wealth and power. That feels better, doesn't it?! But isn't it ironic that today's world judges success by material gain? A further sign of our misaligned direction.

How can this be?

It's impossible to get super rich or powerful without running roughshod over a lot of people on the way up. And really rich people then get stuck in a vicious circle of protecting their wealth at the cost of everything and everybody else: working 24/7, being ridiculously tight-fisted, ripping others off and believing they're more entitled than everyone else.

Humble = old soul

The humblest people tend to be the most spiritually advanced. They feel compassion for other people and the planet, and they're drawn to meaningful ways of contributing to the whole rather than serving themselves. They understand we're all connected and not really the separate individuals we like to think we are.

We are one

Those who recognise this connection, and dedicate their lives to preserving and enriching life for the greater good, I call witches. Witches are motivated, above all, by the happiness of making a positive difference.

You don't need possessions to be wealthy

So next time you're made to feel envy by the constant barrage of media messages telling you that you need all this plastic crap to feel worthy, remind yourself you don't need to give in to messages sent by some fear-filled rich person trying to hold on to their wealth.

A good heart is all you need

In the words of Feargal Sharkey, a good heart is all you need. A new set of mugs won't bring you anywhere near the joy of making someone else a cup of tea, or taking a moment to immerse yourself in the natural world in all its glory. And if that promotion comes at the price of someone else's head, don't do it. A clear conscience is worth more than all the gold in the world.

Forest bathing

In Japan they have forest bathing, shinrin-yoku, and research into the benefits of spending time among trees. I don't need the research; I feel the benefits on every level every time I'm in the woods.

Trauma gives deep growth

Another lovely message from the book is that, as well as choosing our lessons, parents, siblings and friends, we pre-agree our departure and the style of it. The point is to deepen the learning of those left behind.

A revolution in thinking

This means that however horrendous or premature someone's death is, they knew about it and agreed to it. That's quite something, isn't it? And apparently, if you miscarry (I've had three failed pregnancies), it's often the same soul who comes back through. It's all about deepening our understanding and learning, and I really believe that.

The price of life on Earth

The good news is that Earth is the harshest place for life; the spirit world is far more delightful and caring. We're drawn to the challenge of life on Earth by its physical beauty. It may be harsh and sometimes brutal, but it's also incomparably beautiful.

The end leads to a more informed beginning

When each of our lives here ends, we return to the spirit world to be healed and to process our learning and mistakes, so we can be restored to life again with the purpose to evolve.

Final word

I hope my words have resonated deeply with your soul and brought you some peace and an answer to the point of life. We don't have to share the same faith. Most faiths share common truths; they're just different paths to the same destination. I can't recommend Michael Newton's book enough, though there are many others on the same theme. Why? Because we're all one and share the same knowledge. x
